How to Have a Kid-Friendly Disneyland Vacation
It’s not all fun and games on a Disneyland vacation. There are many things that can really drain your energy such as the lines, the hot sun, and searching for the next attraction to visit. Little children can slow you down further. That is why you have to be ready if you are planning to take along your kids.
Off season is the most ideal time for bringing kids along, particularly autumn. If you visit the park in the summer, there will inevitably be a lot of people. During the autumn, on the other hand, air fare is cheaper, crowds are not as dense, and the air will be cooler.
Not all attractions however are open after summer. Off peak season is when some rides are closed for maintenance. This may possibly disappoint your kids if they are looking forward to going on specific rides. Before you set off for California, you can check in advance which rides are open by looking over ride schedules at Disneyland’s website. This will at least let your kids know exactly what to expect.
Apart from the schedules, it is also important to familiarize the rules. You may be able to avail of free passes for children within a certain age group, height restrictions and prescribed attire. Also check if there are diaper change and feeding stations.
Your kids’ safety should be your priority while in Disneyland. Even if you visit the park during low seasons, it can still be a challenge to have kids around. They can easily get lost even in small crowds. Before you dive into your Disneyland vacation, make sure you talk to your kids about the dangers of wandering around and who they should approach in case they do get lost.
You also have to consider comfort. In the summer, and especially with all the people, you and your children may be feeling warm. Some things that you can bring just in case are sunscreen, towels, and other keep-cool essentials. You might also want to pack a change of clothes for the kids in case of little accidents. In autumn or at night, bringing sweaters would be advisable.
You might want to experience some adult rides for your own enjoyment. If you are the only adult, check with the park attendant if there are privileges for parents with little children, such as shorter lines. If there are two or more of you, you can take turns watching the kids and getting on the rides.
If your children are not fond of rides, check out the other options for kids. Tom Sawyer’s Island and Toon Town are alternate attractions allow your kids to run around to their heart’s desire.
A Disneyland vacation with kids is not for the faint hearted. If you want to make sure that you will enjoy your trip, you have to make appropriate plans and preparations. Having a clear idea of what to do and where to go with your kids can make a lot of difference.
