Traveling to Barcelona? Barcelona never sleeps, so plan now for the time of your life! Don’t miss anything: immerse yourself in the wide range of cultural excursions, the nightlife, year ’round pleasant temperatures, and the unique beauty, flair, and ambience of this special city by the sea. Discover why Barcelona is renowned for its distinctive character and incredible mix of modern and historic architecture. Let yourself join the millions of tourists who fall in love with Barcelona each year!

You definitely must visit the architectural works of Antoni Gaud: The Sagrada Familia: Gaud spent ten years working on the designs for this masterpiece, his life’s dream, but never saw his project finished. He died in a tragic traffic accident in 1926. To find the Sagrada Familia, which is in the heart of the city, take the Metro L2 or L5 and disembark at the Sagrada Familia station. You’ll be right in front of the cathedral, and can view it from either of two parks as well. It is hoped that the construction (which is still in process) will be completed by 2026, one hundred years after Gaud’s death.

Once you enjoyed Gauds masterpiece you should continue with Parc Gell, a garden in the north of the city constructed by him as well. From there you have a beautiful view over the whole city and the sea and can relax on the big terrace called Sala Hipstila that made this park famous. Gaud intended this to be a market place like a central point and used thousands of mosaics to decorate the inner and outer walls of the seating. You should go down the stairs and take a photo of the famous salamander that is just at the bottom of the stairs and welcomes the visitors at the main entrance. Best is to leave the metro at Vallcarca because then you can use the escalators up the steep hill. Another spotlight is the Gaud museum in the park, it is the house the artist lived in for a couple of years.

If you still don’t have enough of his work you should definitely visit Casa Mila and Casa Batll that are located at the Passeig de Gracia in the city center. It’s worth to pay the entrance fee as you get to know more about the architecture and details of the buildings. The most fascinating fact is that Gaud didn’t use any right angle and both remind one of the houses of Hundertwasser.

You will be wanting to buy a souvenir and see the sights, so explore the Passeig de Gracia, which is filled with Spanish shops and many shops of important designers like versace & gucci. Head south and visit Placa Catalunya, a huge square and the center of the city. Take a look around Barcelona’s most famous street, the Rambla, which will lead you to the 197-foot-tall Columbus Monument. You might also enjoy exploring the Maremagnum, a shopping center that is especially good for rainy days, and the neighboring Aquarium (one of Europe’s largest), which contains 8,000 fish and 11 sharks! Then when you’re ready to relax, enjoy Barcelona’s 4 km of downtown beaches!

With all this keeping in mind you only need to find a comfortable accommodation for your stay. Of course there are the usual ones like hotels and hostels but especially for city trips you should consider apartments in Barcelona. You are free to do whatever you want and can cook your own meals in the fully equipped kitchens. Have a great stay in Barcelona!
